Drug Dependence
The National Institute on Drug Abuse provides a series of easy to read reports on drug abuse and addiction. Topics include cocaine, heroin, inhalants, methamphetamines, nicotine and anabolic steroids.
In an effort to reduce crime, some people advocate the legalization of drugs. Write an essay on your thoughts either in support of or against drug legalization. Use at least 3 other reliable sources of information, and cite your sources in your paper.

Preventing Drug Misuse and Abuse
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America (PDFA) lists drugs, their street names, and their effects on their Web site. Photos are also provided. PDFA drug information is current, and they provide reliable sources.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America has great tips for talking with youth about drugs. Think ahead to how you would talk to your children or nieces/nephews regarding drug use. Write out a role-play of this hypothetical conversation. What do you want them to learn from this talk? How is this conversation the same or different from the conversation you had with your parents?
